Patch 0.1.23 Notes

Patch 0.1.23 brings copper to Reedhaven. You can now buy and sell at the harbourmaster's counter, see your copper in your purse, and earn it from the first quest, and every crafting attempt now has a price.

New Features

Copper and the Harbour Trade

Copper is the first money in the game, and Halla Tideward, the harbourmaster, keeps the first counter where it is spent. She sells the marsh's materials and buys back what you carry.

  • Halla Tideward's card in the journal now has a Trade button that opens the harbour trade.
    • Stand within three metres of her and press E to talk to her.
    • The button is there whatever her quest is doing.
  • The counter sells reed fibre for 12 copper, marsh hide for 30 and bog iron for 45.
    • It also buys the items in your bag, and shows what it pays for each one.
    • It pays 3 copper for reed fibre, 7 for marsh hide and 11 for bog iron.
  • Each press of Buy or Sell trades one item.
  • Your purse now shows how much copper you have, at the counter and in your bag.
    • It shows two dashes when the game has not read your purse yet, rather than a zero it cannot know.
  • When you sell, the item leaves your bag first and the copper arrives a moment later.
    • While a trade is still being settled, the counter asks you to wait before the next one.

World and Quests

  • What the Tide Left now pays its reward of 500 copper into your purse.
    • Before this patch the reward was written down and never paid.

Crafting

  • Every crafting attempt now costs copper, whether it succeeds or fails.
    • An attempt costs a tenth of the price of what it makes, and at least 1 copper.
    • A reed bow costs 26 copper to attempt, and traveller's bread costs 3.
    • An attempt you cannot afford is refused before anything leaves your bag, and the message shows your copper and the cost.

Developers' notes: Copper needs ways to leave the game as well as ways to enter it, and a price on each crafting attempt is the first of them.

Known Issues

  • Creatures you defeat do not drop anything yet.
  • Nothing in the marsh yields reed fibre yet, so the five that What the Tide Left asks for can only be bought at the harbour counter.
  • The character list and the Play screen show each Calling by an untranslated internal word instead of its English name, such as Warden.
  • The four people of Reedhaven stand with their arms held out instead of standing at rest.
  • The crafting window does not show what an attempt costs before you start it.
